Based on the Grabber circa 1973-1975, this maple-bodied beast is chock-full of the thick, punchy tone that made the original a classic. GRABBER & RIPPER FAMILY 9 screws, 2 knobs & jack, 4 screws to mount sliding pickup plate. Instead of a sliding pickup as was present in the Grabber, the G-3 featured a so-called 'buck. Introduced in 1975 as a companion to the Gibson Grabber, the G-3 (which stands for Grabber 3) introduced a new pickup scheme to the already established body style. Lightweight and very comfortable to play. The Gibson G-3 was a bass guitar by Gibson building on the design of the Gibson Grabber. This bass is 100% original and has some minor playwear.
The Grabber gained in popularity in 1974 due to the high usage of Kiss bass-player Gene Simmons who played a Grabber bass almost exclusively in 1974-1975, the bass even made it onto the album cover of the multi-platinum Kiss LP "ALIVE". The Grabber came out in 1973 and was similar to the "Ripper" bass, except for a "fender-like" bolt-on neck and the unique sliding pickup which enabled the player to position the pickup by sliding it either up or down to simulate a neck or bridge pickup.
